Opportunity card
This way, nothing stands in the way of a successful professional future in Germany. Rely on our detailed guide to organise the entry process efficiently and purposefully. From June 2024, the new residence permit will allow qualified foreign workers to enter Germany to look for work.
The opportunity card:
§ Section 20a & 20b of the Act on the Residence of Foreign Nationals in Germany. The opportunity card, which is based on a points system, will enable qualified workers to enter Germany to look for work in future.
Further information
You are a skilled worker trained abroad with a recognised qualification that has been approved by the state of your country of origin (at least two years of training). You are under 40 years of age, have knowledge of German (A2 intermediate level) or English (B2 level) and three years of professional experience. If you achieve a total of seven points, you will be able to travel to Germany from March 2024 with a special visa to look for work (an innovation in the Immigration Act for skilled workers in Germany).
After your arrival in Germany, if a company considers your application profile interesting and offers you a two-week trial period, you can transition to a different status, namely Section 16d (3), which allows for a recognition partnership for the residence permit. The residence permit is valid for one year and can be extended for up to two years if necessary.
