Visa & entry procedure for immigrants from third countries

When recruiting skilled workers and trainees from abroad, we work in accordance with the provisions of the WHO and the Employment Ordinance (in accordance with § 38 BeschV).

For professionals

Step 1: Prerequisites

  • Professional qualification recognised by the state in the country of origin, at least 2 years of training
  • Equivalence of the qualification or notification of deficit
  • German language skills B1/B2
  • Workplace
  • Securing a livelihood, social insurance (through salary)

Step 2: Visa procedure

  • Document preparation (fill out visa forms, employment contract, proof of language proficiency, valid passport)
  • Certificate of residence
  • Letter of recognition (complete or deficit)
  • Appointment for visa application
  • Visa application, submission of complete documents, visa fees Approx. 75 €

Step 3: Entry & integration in Germany

  • Issuing the entry visa for the purpose of employment (taking up employment)
  • Booking a flight ticket
  • Entering Germany
  • Immediate employment with full recognition as a skilled worker
  • Adaptation course + employment as an assistant with partial recognition
  • Support in dealing with authorities, cultural mediation
  • Long-term support until the end of the probationary period
  • Residence permit according to §18 a/b – application for the exercise of a qualified professional activity, fees approx. 100€

For vocational training

Step 1: Requirements (for applicants)

  • Foreign school-leaving qualification e.g. secondary school leaving certificate, Abitur or Bachelor’s degree
  • Equivalence of the school leaving certificate, at least in Germany secondary school leaving certificate or intermediate school leaving certificate
  • German language skills B1/B2
  • Application procedure, digital job interviews
  • Training place offer, training contract with prior approval from the BA (not necessarily)
  • Certificate of residence
  • Securing your livelihood (through training allowance)

Step 2: Visa procedure

  • Prepare documents, fill out visa form
  • Labour contract
  • Valid passport
  • Language skills (B1/B2)
  • Make an appointment to apply for a visa in your country of origin (German embassy), apply for a visa
  • Visa fees (75€)

Step 3: Entry & integration in Germany

  • Issue of the entry visa for the purpose of employment (pursuit of qualified vocational training §17 a or §16 a)
  • Booking the flight ticket
  • Arrival in Germany and start of training
  • Residence registration
  • Residence permit according to § 16 a/b Application for qualified vocational training, fees approx. 100€
  • Ongoing support from FEIS GmbH

Case study (for recognition partnership)§ Section 16d (3) Residence Act

The hotel “Relax Germany” is looking forward to welcoming Amina N., an experienced hotel specialist with a two-year degree in catering, hotel and tourism in Senegal. Amina N. has a basic knowledge of the German language at level A2. As a committed training company, the “Relax Germany” hotel trains one or two trainees every year.

After her arrival in Germany, Amina N. will immediately start the recognition process while working as a hotel assistant at the hotel. During the evaluation of her qualifications from Senegal, a deficit was identified, particularly in the areas of knowledge and professional experience. She will close these gaps through targeted adaptation training as part of the recognition partnership with her employer.

Case study (employment with practical work experience)§ Section 19d (2) Residence Act

Simo M. from Morocco is a qualified IT specialist with a bachelor’s degree in IT and two years of professional experience in Morocco. He has signed an employment contract with the company “Connect GmbH”, which provides for a gross salary of €40,000.

Simo M. is able to travel to Germany without prior recognition and is not required to prove his language skills when applying for a visa. His employer considers his excellent knowledge of English and French to be sufficient for the job requirements.
